A brief history of Hong Kong...
Here's a little trivia for those of you who have yet to come visit me in Hong Kong. The 2006 census reported 7 million people living in Hong Kong, 95% being Chinese. Even though there is a vast Chinese majority Hong Kong remains one of the most vibrant cultural and financial centers in the world. Hong Kong is located in southeastern China at the base of the Pearl River. The city is divided into four major sections that include the New Territories, Kowloon, Hong Kong Island, and the Outlying Islands. The island was ceded to the British after the Opium Wars in 1841, but was finally restored to Chinese custody in 1997.
